Since its formation, the group has sponsored the following events: · Ongoing Peace Vigils held on the second Saturday of every month in Bristol. Time: 11 a.m to noon. Where: Across from the Post Office. Please join us. · March 2003 - A petition for peace, which was presented to the Bristol Town Council, for the successful passage of a peace resolution on the war with Iraq. · “We the People”—A Celebration of the U.S. Constitution (May, 2003) at the Bristol State House. Events ranged from a children’s theater piece to a panel discussion on the Patriot Act. · A seminar on peaceful resistance, led by Keith Morton. · “I’ve Got a Song – A Living History of the McCarthy Era” performed by Nancy Hood ( author) and Rick Keller · Memorial Vigil for the 9/11 victims on 9/11/03 on the Bristol Commons-- in concert with “The September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows.” · Peace Pot Luck at St. Michael’s Parish Hall, featuring a presentation on the “State of the Union” by Eugene Mihaly (October, 2003) · A fund raising concert for the Kerry Campaign (October, 2004) · Forum, “The Patriot Act: Watching What You Read” presented by M. Lesley Wilkins (April, 2005) · Organized Bristol Town Council Workshops on the Patriot Act (May/ June 2005) which led to a Bristol Town Council passing a resolution on the Patriot Act. · “Is War the Answer?: Let’s Talk” led by Keith Morton (June, 2005) · Helped Mobilize RI to attend the Sept. 2005 Peace rally in DC · Held extensive discussion concerning the occupation of Iraq and exit strategies resulting in a position paper (November 2005) · February 10th 2006 at 7 PM - St. Michael’s Parish Hall, 399 Hope St. Bristol. Direct Aid Initiative is a grassroots humanitarian effort providing medical care to displaced Iraqis through funds contributed by American families. Although this remarkable and moving testimony was typically ignored by the mainstream media, this DVD allows their voices to be heard. The East Bay Citizens for Peace was formed in February, 2003 by a group of Rhode Islanders from Bristol, Warren, Barrington and East Providence, concerned with the imminent war with Iraq and the Constitutional freedoms threatened under the Patriot Act. The group sponsors a variety of events that help provide an open forum on issues relating to peace and justice. |
